A BRIEF HISTORY OF GUCCI

In the heart of Florence 1921, Guccio Gucci established the small family-run luggage company, Gucci. Over the years, Gucci has transformed into one of the leading luxury brands worldwide.

Gucci made headway in the late 1950s-1960s under the management of Aldo Gucci, better known as Dr. Gucci. During this time, then, Princess Elizabeth, and Elizabeth Taylor were among the many who adorned Gucci’s accessories.

It was Aldo who helped expand the Gucci brand into the US market after WWII, allowing Gucci to be a world-renowned symbol. After Aldo’s son Paolo introduced the ready-to-wear line in the late 1960s, it was easy to find a fashion icon or influencer wearing Gucci.

In 1994, the talented Tom Ford revitalized Gucci and once again made it one of the go-to brands for luxury. Today, the brand is owned by French holding company, Pinault-Printemps-Redoute and run under the creative direction of Frida Giannini.
