I had the pleasure of sitting for a private appointment with famed bridal designer Amsale Aberra (pictured) last week during an event sponsored by the World Gold Council. In addition to getting to speak to the woman behind the dresses, there was a larger purpose: pairing gorgeous gold jewelry with wedding gowns.
While many women are content with going the traditional route – classic strands of pearls or delicate diamonds – the modern bride is always looking for ways to make the big day her own. Yellow gold has seen a major resurgence in recent years, and the warm color looks fantastic on all skin tones. Plus, the huge variety in styles means you can go either classic or modern.
I loved seeing how Amsale herself would pair the dresses with the jewels. She gravitated towards lockets and engraved pieces that really felt personal or could be customized for each bride. The event also featured some incredible antique gold wedding rings, including one of my favorites:
This spectacular Roman ring, from the 3rd Century AD, features an image of clasped hands – a traditional symbol of the marriage ceremony. If you’re looking for gold jewels for your own wedding ceremony, look no further than our contemporary and vintage collections.
