Curator pick of the week: Rolex Daytona Watch

Roger Federer has style — on and off the court.

He recently won his seventh Wimbledon Championship and did so wearing a vintage Rolex Daytona, circa 1981, his birth year.

The Daytona is a very distinctive mechanical chronograph that has been manufactured since the early 1960s. The current models are self-winding.

We have a wide range of newer models, including the two-tone version pictured here. All of the Daytonas are highly collectible and easily recognizable, even though most wearers don’t actually use the three chronographs.

As the name implies, it was designed for race car drivers. With Federer’s speed and right-handed one-handed backhand, it makes perfect sense.
