With warmer weather, it’s time to swap out dark winter colors with the ultimate summer hue – white.
You may not want to orchestrate a complete wardrobe white-out, but adding a handbag is easier to manage (and way less intrusive on your dry cleaning bill). Take some time to think about what sort of white you want to hang on your shoulder. Will it be a quilted classic Chanel or a boho Chloe or a rebellious Balenciaga? Whatever your vision, this is your blank canvas to run with.
This week, our handbag authenticator Elizabeth Bernstein is hanging out with one of her fabulous friends, Sarah.
The duo prove that you can mix textures and patterns and create a chic 2013 look.
Per Elizabeth: “This is one of my favorite combos. Sarah is wearing tapestry print pants with a black, camel and metallic tweed blazer, paired with a phenomenal studded crossbody convertible clutch by the ever fabulous Valentino. Might I add, I just cannot get enough of tapestry prints on clothing – squeal!”
“I love the eclectic mix of a timeless tweed blazer, matched with an unexpected pastel lady-like print, and finally perfectly executed with a rocking yet delicate bag.”
Also note: “The leopard couch in the background: fabulous but not included!”
Guess we’ll just have to settle for the bag … for now.
Join us on our never-ending (but enjoyable quest) for a day bag with a strap long enough to be worn as a cross-body and the timeless style of Hermès – meet the Jypsiere, specifically, this very rare bi-color Etain and Etoupe Clemence Eclat Jypsiere bag. It’s a favorite of our handbag director Elizabeth Bernstein (and her cell phone case friend Cliff).
“The Jypsiere is one of Hermès’s most amazing everyday bag creations thus far,” says Elizabeth. “This bag is perfect for work, shopping, weekend, travel, etc.”
“This specific bag is Etain grey with contrast Etoupe interior – an “Eclat” bag. You will indeed not see many of these in two-tone as they are very rare. Can be worn by a woman – or yes, even a man!”
Thank you, Fashionista.com for offering this keen style advice. Pretty much no matter what kind of bag you’re carrying – whether it’s clutch or cross-body – if you want to look like a fashion editor, just carry it like it’s a football.

And the award for most popular Oscar clutch goes to …. the small box evening bag that you can easily carry with one hand.
We’re strong believers in the perfect evening bag is essential to looking your most glamorous. There’s no better inspiration than the red carpet. At the Oscars, the top handbag designers were split between Judith Leiber, Salvatore Ferragamo, Roger Vivier, Jimmy Choo and Alexander McQueen.
It just so happens that most of our favorite bags were carried by Jennifers.
First up, Jennifer Lawrence (above), best actress winner, paired her Dior gown with a Roger Vivier clutch.

Around the office, Portero’s own authenticator has a reputation – always carrying a different handbag.
Yes, Elizabeth Bernstein truly puts her passion to work as she carries a fabulous designer bag that makes her outfit sing. Here she is with a Fendi Peekaboo bag.
If you follow the new arrivals frequently, you might even find her pre-owned favorites for sale. She’s a notorious handbag flipper, always changing things up.
Check back on our blog for her latest picks and some of her insights on what’s happening in the industry. She may even share a few tips on searching for authentic pre-owned designer bags like those you can find on Portero and how she knows they’re legit. Feel free to let us know if you have any questions for her such as how to gift vintage. In the mean time, check here’s Elizabeth talking to the Wall Street Journal comparing real and fake bags.
Ah, the Birkin.
As Hermès-philes know, most non-movie stars can’t walk into a boutique and buy one. You might be added to a wait list. That makes the Birkin the most elusive and exclusive handbag in the world.
So, why wait? We always have more than 100 Birkins in stock, including the classics (a pristine gold togo 40, pictured above).
After the jump, see some of our other favorites, this week, at least.
Thank you to Design Taxi for finding this stunning, classic black Birkin…made from Legos. We’re not sure if Hermès approves of it, but we’d carry this. We sure wish we had developed more elementary school construction skills!
Wow, here’s a first for us. We’ve seen a lot of Birkins, but this one is definitely special. This pristine (very) pink suede Hermes Birkin has never been carried and is lined with soft pink lambskin.
Quite possibly the girliest Birkin ever?
