Today's offering features a rare original Harwood "self-winding" watch. In response to the need for a watch that could survive difficult military conditions without letting dust and dust in and without needing to be wound, an inspired John Harwood created the version of the automatic watch. Patented in 1924 it was one of the world's first automatic watches - the first worldwide production watch in fact - and the Harwood automatic became a historically significant milestone in horological history. In order to avoid having an exposed stem and crown and thus eliminate an opening for dust and moisture to pass through, the watch possess a unique bezel-setting feature with dial indicator to set the time. This Harwood shows honest wear and the chrome plating is worn though it remains original down to the dial and hands - no small feat for an eighty year old watch. It functions well and runs. Harwood watches like this are featured in numerous books and watch publications.
